Westquay’s Multi-Storey Car Park was transformed into a vibrant street art gallery when the second chapter of Multi Stories came to the city centre on 18th – 19th May 2024.
Multi-Stories was launched in May 2023 in partnership with Westquay to celebrate Southampton’s communities, culture and creative expression. The event’s popularity continues to grow, drawing hundreds of visitors from across the South Coast.
Once again, Multi Stories was a fusion of art, skateboarding, and music. Over thirty talented artists – with internationally renowned street artists like EPOD, Mr Cenz, and Captain Kris collaborating with local talents such as Slam, Pogo, and Ayem – created a series of large and small-scale murals in a wide breadth of styles.
New to this year’s event was the Maker’s Market, where visitors could purchase one-of-a-kind creations from local artisans and crafters.
Also proving popular were the free art workshops, which allowed visitors of all ages to try their hand at graffiti, life drawing, chalk and tape floor drawing, and even participate in a community wall design competition.
The event also embraced the spirit of skateboarding and rollerblading, with a dedicated section of the car park serving as a skate park. Skate Southampton not only wowed the crowd with their impressive skills but also offered workshops for attendees eager to learn new tricks and conquer ramps.
The lively atmosphere was further amplified by a soundtrack from Southampton musicians and DJs, spanning genres from the past 60 years of the city’s musical history. Breakdancers added to the energy, showcasing their moves against the backdrop of some of the murals created in 2023 as part of the first event.
Paintshop Studio were the creative producers for the artwork – a local studio that blends graffiti art with graphic design.
Joe Ross from local creative consultancy Good Idea Today also worked closely with Paintshop, leading on the emerging artist commissions and creative community workshops.

Earlier this year, we launched a competition inviting designs for our community wall, and the response was overwhelming. The winning design came from 11-year-old Joseph.
Joseph collaborated with local artist Kev Munday, and in September, his creation came to life as a dynamic mural on Level 1 of the Westquay Car Park.
Joseph’s dad, Stephen, shared, “Joseph imagined the wall as a window on a futuristic monorail train. The monsters and creatures are all just random doodles he’s drawn before. He wanted it to be colorful, bright, and fun!”
Now, the mural stands as a vibrant celebration of creativity and community.
