I am nominating husband and wife Colin and Tracy Gaylor, the founders of Southampton Veterans Trust, for their incredible work for and with veterans, for the past decade.
I recall when I first went to their small cafe in Woolston back in 2017. It was open every day. Any veteran was welcome; there was no need to register or to become a member, to explain, or even to talk. The cafe was a safe place to be in. In the years since then, Colin and Tracy Gaylor and a steering committee managed to obtain a building that used to belong to the NHS. They transformed it into a fantastic place, where they organised everything from counselling sessions to cooking lessons and various activities for veterans. I followed them on Facebook, and I know for a fact that they responded to so many veterans in urgent need; some were homeless, some on the brink, and people with PTSD, not just in Southampton but in the Solent region.
