Mariella is head of the Art department at Upper Shirley High School in Southampton. She has worked there for over twenty years with fantastic results. Her calm but firm approach to teaching has produced amazing young artists who value the creative process. Mariella works tirelessly; staying late to help students, running art club’s, organising art workshops, instigating exciting day and residential trips to various places.
The art room is always busy at break and lunchtimes with students finishing work or hanging out with their friends in a quiet, happy atmosphere.
As an art technician at Upper Shirley High School, I have worked with Mariella for nearly eight years now and am always amazed at her commitment, resilience and creativity. Not just to her students but to her fellow colleagues as well. She is a true asset to the school and Southampton art community.
