I am nominating Michael Ockwell, CEO of the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton, as a community legend for his outstanding contributions to our community, particularly in supporting young people and the arts. Michael has successfully led a thriving commercial business at the Mayflower, bringing world-class performances to the city, but what truly sets him apart is his dedication to nurturing emerging talent. He continually takes risks by programming less mainstream performances, particularly from up-and-coming dance companies, providing them with a platform to showcase their work and reach wider audiences.

Beyond the theatre’s commercial success, Michael has been deeply involved in community outreach, offering opportunities for young people to engage with the arts, often for the first time.
