Multi-Stories: The South Coast’s Largest Street Art Gallery

Multi-Stories is a city-defining creative project transforming Westquay’s multi-storey car park into the South Coast’s most expansive and eclectic permanent street art gallery. Developed over three consecutive years, this ambitious programme blended bold visual art with live events and public participation — bringing colour, culture and community to unexpected spaces.

A partnership between Westquay and Southampton Forward, with artistic direction by Paintshop Studio and support from Joe Ross at Good Idea Today, the project has turned a functional concrete car park into a vibrant canvas — and a powerful symbol of the city’s creative energy.

Across three chapters, Multi-Stories has:

• Commissioned over 90 permanent murals from a wide range of local and national artists
• Transformed nine levels of the Westquay multi-storey car park into an evolving public gallery
• Engaged hundreds of participants through artist-led workshops, community takeovers, live music, dance, and interactive events
• Inspired the next generation, offering a platform for young creatives to learn, connect, and shine

Multi-Stories isn’t just a public art project — it’s a lasting legacy for Southampton. It invites people of all ages and backgrounds to explore, express and take pride in the city’s stories, while making space for future talent to grow.
